The Youth Mental Health Council is a multi-disciplinary group of community members working to help parents and youth in our city identify youth mental health issues; to raise awareness of these issues; and to identify community resources to assist families in dealing with these issues. The Youth Mental Health Council also works with health care and mental health care professionals to inform them and educate them about select youth mental health issues, as well as providing information to individuals who work with youth through schools, religious organizations and a variety of social-service agencies. The Council has focused on several issues including youth depression, eating disorders, drinking, suicide and self-inury.

New members are always welcome. Currently, the Council comprises representatives from social services agencies, health systems, counseling centers, the UT Health Science Center, Metro Health and the Bexar County Medical Society, among others. The Youth Mental Health Council meets from 3:30 to 5 p.m. the second Thursday of each month, at rotating locations. For more information, contact Nicole Rogers, executive director, at (210) 481-2573.
