Community Garden Events

Upcoming Events

Community Garden Work N’ Learn (Saturday’s)- this activity runs from 8 AM to 12 PM.  We meet at 1002 N. Flores and the day starts with a group led warm-up session and physical activity. We will then break up into groups to work on various seasonal task  including: painting a mural on garden beds, weeding in and around garden beds, applying mulch for weatherization, cleaning up the space, fill up and refresh garden bed with fertilizer/compost, and harvest plants to share with the community. Most days we will host a Master Gardener to share some tips on gardening and answer general questions.  We will also provide activities for youth and families that will vary by season but may include making bird feeders, homemade pots, terrariums, and working on the mural art project.

These are going to be on:  February 11, March 10, April 14, and May 12.

Garden Family Fun Nights (February 15, March 21, and April 18)- We are working to boost community support and engagement by offering alternatives to our traditional monthly Saturday program.  These evening work parties will be a time to plant seeds, get active in the garden, learn to use household items for gardening projects, and a time to harvest food for families.  Each month we will host a Master Gardener who will bring the garden to life with fun and creative activities that can be replicated easily by parents and youth groups.  Each night we will offer a different topic and hands-on activities for kids and parents to do together.  We are looking to make this fun and easy, zero stress, and always something that parents can enjoy without having to work too hard.

Austin Academy- Roots and Shoots Ecological Club
Ongoing- We will be working with the children of Austin Academy's Roots and Shoots Ecological Club throughout the year.  They will alternate weeks of coming from our garden to their garden or classroom on Friday afternoons.  The Health Collaborative will be facilitating various educational components with them in regards to learning to grow food, how to access food through farm co-op initiatives, cooperatives, and farmer’s markets.  We will also be engaging them in other service projects that relate to food security and environmental stewardship.
